Unite Community Job Centre Activists & Welfare Rights Meeting, Tu 4 Nov, 2.30pm

The next London-wide meeting for Unite Community Job Centre Activists is 2.30pm Tuesday 4th of November at the Moreland Street regional office (33-37 Moreland Street, EC1V 8BB). All members are welcome to get involved and campaign for a better society and Welfare Rights!

Monthly support group: A lot of people are facing retaliatory evictions, huge rent increases, bullying and harassment from their landlord and poor quality housing. No suffering alone! Let’s support each other and make noise!

Next support group meeting is held on Monday, 27 October, 7-8.30 at Unite Community Centre, in the basement of St. George’s Town Hall, 236 Cable Street.

video workshop, Tuesday 18th, 3-4.30pm

Are you interested in editing, filming or shooting? We’d like to learn together how to work and use a camera
and how to interview the public. It does not matter if you have no experience we are all hear just to learn and have fun and work with some ideas that have already being developed so the more we have the merrier.
The workshop will start at 3pm and end at 16.30pm. We can use Unite Community’s Sony SLT A 37 camera for that day.

Participants have to pay a small sum for materials such as threads and fabric.

091Our ESOL courses are part of the United Migrant Workers Education Project (UMWEP). It is a project that seeks to provide free, community-led courses to the locality around the Unite Community Centre in Cable Street. We are running courses in:

  • ESOL (English Speaking for Other Languages)
  • Information and Communication Technologies (Beginner to Intermediate)

The project is staffed by experienced volunteers and is aimed at those who have difficulty accessing traditional forms of formal education. So whether you want to improve your spoken or written English or learn how to use a computer, we have a class for you.

Interested in photography?

We’ve had a great photography workshop today! Barbara showed us how to find a good subject and take a picture with a digital camera.

If you’re interested in learning about photography with other members of the community, please let us know. It would be great if we could set up a local photography group, portraying our borough and the people living in it.
